Inflation calculator
Enter an amount, a number of years and an inflation rate.
How it is calculated
Future cost = amount × (1 + inflation)years. Today's value of a future sum = amount ÷ (1 + inflation)years.
Worked example
At 6% inflation, ₹1 lakh of spending today costs ₹1.79 lakh in 10 years and ₹3.21 lakh in 20 years.
Common questions
What is India's average inflation?
Consumer price inflation in India has averaged roughly 5–7% a year over the last two decades, with education and healthcare often higher.
Why does inflation matter for investing?
Money that earns less than inflation loses buying power. A fixed deposit at 7% with 6% inflation, before tax, grows your buying power by only about 1% a year.
