Lump sum calculator

Enter the amount, the number of years and a return to assume.

How it is calculated

Value = amount × (1 + r)years, where r is the yearly return (CAGR). That is the same as compounding every month at the monthly equivalent rate.

Worked example

₹1 lakh at 12% a year grows to ₹3.11 lakh in 10 years and ₹9.65 lakh in 20 years.

Common questions

How is a lump sum return calculated?

Future value = amount × (1 + yearly return)^years. At 12% a year, money roughly doubles in about 6 years.

What is CAGR?

Compound annual growth rate: the steady yearly return that turns the starting amount into the ending amount over the period.

Lump sum or SIP?

If the money is already there, a lump sum has longer to grow; a SIP, or a staggered transfer from a liquid fund, reduces the risk of investing everything at a market high.
